Dr. Hoa Nguyen
Associate Professor, Marriage and Family Therapy
Dr. Hoa Nguyen is an associate professor for the Family Therapy Program, AAMFT-approved supervisor, and licensed marriage and family therapist in the state of Georgia. She joined the Valdosta State University faculty in July 2017, after teaching as an academic intern and clinical supervisor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She received her bachelors degree in Psychology from Georgia State University, her masters degree in MFT at Valdosta State University, and her doctorate degree in Human Development and Family Sciences with an emphasis on MFT from Virginia Tech.
Dr. Nguyen teaches MFT Practicum, Foundations in Family Therapy, Couples and Sex Therapy, Legal Issues in Therapy, and Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Justice. Her research focuses on dialogic pedagogy, sexual and gender identities, and cultural attunement and humility in family therapy. As a clinical supervisor and therapist, she believes therapy is not about changing people. Therapy is about inviting people to change their relationships and create space for new possibilities.
